“WHY WE NEED THE JEWISH VOICE FOR LABOUR”

Speaker:  Pamela Blakelock

Pamela says:

“I was brought up in Kidbrooke, South East London in an averagely religious Jewish household. My parents were averagely Conservative and I first came across ideas of socialism from joining a Zionist youth movement called Habonim whose aim was to recruit young Jews to live on the Kibbutz.

I gradually rejected Zionist ideas in favour of universalist socialist ideas and became active in the trade union movement, being an NUT representative at a secondary school in Southwark , becoming active in my union branch and a delegate to Southwark Trades Council .

When Corbyn was elected I decided that this was an inch of possibility for socialist ideas to be raised in contrast to the Blair years and the responsibility of the Labour Party for the destruction of viable Middle East states, using the State of Israel as the bastion of both US and British interests.

I joined the Jewish Voice for Labour to be able to work against the false propaganda of the Israeli Government and promote international rights, including those of the Palestinians”.
